men's shed

hiyaz

just bouncing in to say that i had a brilliant wee tracking session today. i was invited in to record the "guitar group" at Limavady Men's Shed. they're a group of fellas that meet every wednesday afternoon at the Men's Shed with an instructor to learn, improve and just have a bit of a laugh. this particular Shed was set up by local charity Be Safe Be Well as a means of promoting the social inclusion and health and well-being of, well, everyone, but particular of vulnerable adults and the disaffected. it's got a drop-in centre vibe to it, with dartboards, pool tables and the like as well as coffee and snacks on demand. they have carpentry workshops, 3D printers, fricken laser-beams. they've built their own barbecue shack which bears a striking resemblence to a sauna. they've got an archery range and all sorts of gardening allotments in the grounds. when I arrived one of the guys from the workshop fixed a rack of mine that had been broken in transit. the general ethos here is that men don't really talk face-to-face, they talk shoulder-to-shoulder. they're doing great work there. if there's a Shed in your area, go and see it. support it.

anyway, the guitar group - these lads are brilliant. they're all of different abilities, musical taste and background and the age range is quite staggering. the one thing they have in common is the Men's Shed. one of the group had written a song - the Men's Shed Song. the band got together and learned and perfected it, and so i got the call to come round and record it. i set up in their sitting room with a bunch of mics and DIs and we spent the day tracking the original piece they had written and also a few more of their favourites. they are class.

go and find your nearest men's shed (uk/ie)

all the best
